Educational Interpreter Reports to: Team Leader SupervisorEmployment Status: Full Time FLSA Status: Non-ExemptQUALIFICATIONS: Proficiency/working knowledge of various modalities used (CASE, ASL, PSE, SEE, Auditory-Verbal, Oral Interpreting).Associate or Bachelor Degree from Interpreter Training Program, and/or;Ohio State Board of Education licensure granted under ODEs Grandparenting Provision, and/or;Ohio State Board of Education Temporary Interpreter License and enrollment in an Interpreter Training Program.2. Must pass a criminal background check.3. Current drivers license and reliable transportation.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Facilitates information/communication (auditory, written, demonstrated, or signed) between students who are hearing impaired and their teachers, students, and other individuals using the appropriate mode of communication.Is actively engaged in the lessons and helps to reinforce objectives in all school environments.Encourages students to speak for themselves, when appropriate, voices when students speech is unintelligible and encourages direct interaction between assigned students and their educators and peers.Encourages independent socialization of all students.Interprets classroom announcements, programs and functions during the school day to students, families, the public, and educators in a professional manner.When not interpreting, Educational Interpreters assigned to a HI classroom will provide tutorial support, review information, material, and content introduced in the regular and/or HI/D classroom, gather/prepare materials and prepare lesson materials as specified by the instructor.When interpreting in a district setting or HI classroom, the interpreter will utilize their plan time for research and review of regular education curriculum and school-related activities.Meet with team members as scheduled, to discuss the academic and communication needs of students and team members.Assists Center HI/D itinerant teachers and school personnel, as needed, with duties, including supervision of the student during arrival, dismissal, movement throughout the building, and during students lunch and helps with routine maintenance of the classroom and FM equipment.Works in a timely manner to meet the responsibilities of the job and job-related activities, and accomplishes assigned tasks in the given time frame.Arrives to work assignment location on time and demonstrates regular work attendance to fulfill job responsibilities.Demonstrates initiative, a high degree of professional commitment, and works independently in meeting the responsibilities of the job and job-related activities.Comprehension of Google Suite applications.Responds constructively to supervision by assuming responsibilities for improvement.Participates in all Team and Center meetings and activities as required by the position to accomplish Team and Center goals.Maintains communication with other Center personnel, including other Team members, district personnel, families, and students.Works cooperatively with Center staff to complete mutually assigned tasks, as determined by the Team, Team Leader and/or Director.Manages time to accomplish duties and implements strategies to deal with competing work priorities.Maintains records, collects outcome and consumer satisfaction data and submits reports that meet the requirements of the job.Provides the information required by position (e.g.: computerized caseload lists, EMIS, Medicaid, grant applications, project applications, inventory data entry, mailing lists, professional development, Project Activities Reports, etc.).Keeps abreast of techniques and innovations in the assigned position via attendance at pertinent training, professional reading and other professional development activities, and develops an Individual Professional Development Plan if required by position.Assists in identifying and prioritizing annual budget needs.Operates within the assigned budget and utilizes Center requisition procedures to obtain needed supplies and materials.Follows Center procedures for posting accurate weekly schedules, for signing in/out of work sites, wearing identification badges, requesting/reporting leaves and completing mileage reimbursement requests, work calendars/timesheets when appropriate.Completes reports and other documents, as needed, which clearly and concisely communicate information, using correct writing conventions.OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Follows assigned districts policies and procedures, including dress code.Safeguards confidentiality of privileged information.Ability to explain Center programs and services to school personnel, families and the public in an accurate and helpful manner.Demonstrates a helpful, positive attitude with coworkers, families, students, district personnel and maintains appropriate, courteous language in all work settings.Presents a personal appearance that is appropriate for professional responsibilities and is within the role expectations of client groups.Maintains a neat working area and assists others in appropriate housekeeping efforts throughout the Center.Follows Center regulations to resolve conflicts with other staff.Problem solves and/or notifies appropriate Center personnel regarding equipment and supply needs.Performs other duties as assigned.Performs all duties in conformity to the adopted Vision and Mission statements.Fully understands and abided by the Ohio Revised Codes regulations for reporting child abuse and/or neglect.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of: Southern Ohio Educational Service Center policies and regulations, State Department of Education Office for Exceptional Children Model Policies and Procedures; names of school personnel, assigned district policies and regulations.Ability to: explain policies and regulations; follow instructions; maintain files and records; collect data; provide effective leadership in training new staff; accept and request assistance when situations warrant; share information of ongoing Center activities with other Center staff; facilitate effective problem-solving; conduct and participate in the IEP process. Skills in: various communication modes (ASL, SEE, PSE, CASE, Oral interpreting, Auditory-Verbal).EQUIPMENT OPERATED: FM auditory equipment including Cochlear Implantsand hearing aids, computer SMART Board and other assistive technology asneeded.OTHER WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in or around crowds.Has contact with district personnel, parents and children (age 3-22), and the deaf community.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: As per the Southern Ohio Educational Service Centers Governing Board Policy Manual and the contract of employment.PERFORMANCE EVALUATION: As per the Southern Ohio Educational Service Centers Governing Board Policy Manual.The SOESC Governing Board is an equal opportunity employer.
