Clinical faculty (regardless of rank) - faculty positions within the university that are not tenure track and not eligible for tenure; on a fixed term contract. Persons with the title of professor-clinical, associate professor-clinical, assistant professor-clinical and instructor-clinical. Duties and responsibilities are assigned in accordance with the workload guidelines laid out in the pattern of administration of each faculty department and, as appropriate, regional campus; Clinical faculty are teacher/practitioners and will be engaged primarily in teaching activities. These faculty normally have earned doctorate or other terminal degree in the relevant field or equivalent experience.

The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for an open clinical track faculty position in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences for a position in Small Animal Internal Medicine.
Position Overview
The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine announces an outstanding opportunity for a full-time clinical track faculty position in Small Animal Internal Medicine. The appointee will join the Small Animal Internal Medicine Service within the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, which is currently comprised of seven faculty members, eight residents, five certified veterinary technicians and a client care liaison.
Clinical-track candidates will be assigned approximately 60-65% time in clinics, including patient management, client service, clinical teaching of students, didactic and laboratory teaching and advanced training of interns and residents. Sponsored research is not required for clinical-track faculty, but clinical research, publications or other scholarly activities to advance clinical veterinary medicine are expected and encouraged. Tenure-track faculty typically have a 50% commitment to clinical service and clinical teaching with the remainder devoted to didactic and laboratory teaching, and to developing research/scholarship, including collaboration with other scientists, advising of graduate student and resident research, and publications in peer-reviewed journals. Faculty are also expected to be involved in professional and community outreach, continuing education, committee service, and curriculum development.
The Small Animal Internal Medicine Service is located in a new suite within the comprehensive Veterinary Medical Center and referral center with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, including endoscopy, cystoscopy, laser lithotripsy, extracorporeal therapies, laparoscopy, digital radiography, ultrasonography, fluoroscopy, 128-slice CT, 128-slice PET/CT, a 3 Tesla MRI, nuclear medicine, an interventional radiology suite, and a 24-7 small animal emergency and critical care unit. All clinical facilities, including the surgical suites were completely renovated in 2017. The SAIM treatment room facility and adjacent dedicated student learning centers were renovated in 2023.
Performance Objectives
TEACHING DUTIES
- Clinical, didactic, and laboratory teaching of professional students, residents and interns in the Small Animal Internal Medicine Service, in conjunction with the diagnosis and treatment of patients presented to The OSU Veterinary Medical Center.
CLINICAL SERVICE AND OUTREACH DUTIES
- All aspects of patient care associated with a busy Small Animal Internal Medicine practice including: patient management, client care, communication with referring DVMs, consulting with colleagues, medical record keeping, professional development, and participation in public relations activities.
RESEARCH AND SCHOLARLY DUTIES
- Use of scheduled off-clinic time for preparing teaching materials, conducting research,
writing for publication, and other scholarly activities.
- Tenure track faculty are expected to meet the criteria established in the college’s Research Metrics document for their level of research appointment.
- Although extramurally funded research is not required for clinical track faculty, participation in collaborative research projects, resident and graduate student projects is strongly encouraged.

Education and Experience Requirements
Candidates must have a DVM or equivalent degree. The candidate must have completed an ACVIM or ECVIM-Companion Animal residency and be board-certified or board-eligible. An advanced degree or equivalent research experience is desirable for tenure-track candidates.
