Safety Manager

We are seeking an experienced Safety Manager to lead our safety program, ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and foster a proactive safety culture across all Smith & Oby projects.What You’ll Do
The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring Smith & Oby’s health and safety programs across commercial mechanical and plumbing projects. This role will provide leadership, training, and support to field teams, ensuring a safe work environment and compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards.- Safety Program Leadership
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve company-wide health and safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and safety observations to ensure compliance with OSHA, state, and local regulations.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses; prepare detailed reports; and recommend corrective actions.
- Training & Education
- Conduct employee onboarding and ongoing safety training (OSHA, PPE, hazard communication, confined space, fall protection, etc.).
- Promote a culture of safety awareness through toolbox talks, safety meetings, and site leadership engagement.
- Ensure subcontractors and vendors adhere to Smith & Oby safety standards.
- Compliance & Reporting
- Maintain all required safety documentation, records, and reports.
- Track and analyze safety metrics (TRIR, incident rates, near-miss reports, etc.) to identify trends and drive continuous improvement.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies and participate in inspections and audits.
- Collaboration & Leadership
- Partner with project managers, foremen, and field staff to identify potential hazards and implement solutions.
- Support supervisors in enforcing safe work practices and corrective actions when necessary.
- Participate in project planning meetings to provide safety input on scope, equipment, and processes.
What We’re Looking For
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Construction Management, or related field (preferred).- Minimum of 5 years of safety experience in construction, mechanical, or plumbing environments.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), or OSHA 30 certification strongly preferred.
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in the field at job sites, conduct audits, and lead hands-on safety training.
