Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Medical Oncology PCU (Progressive Care Unit) position requiring high-acuity PCU experience and telemetry skills in a rotating day/night schedule.
Details
- Work setting is a 36-bed Oncology Telemetry unit with over 24 beds dedicated to PCU-level care
- Patient population includes Medical Oncology with solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology diagnoses
- High-acuity PCU patients with a smaller med-surg component; heavy emphasis on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention
- Pediatric patients are occasionally present on the unit but are extremely rare and primarily managed by permanent staff
- PCU patient ratio is 1:3; Med-Surg Telemetry ratio is 1:4-5
- Equipment includes GE B450 telemetry monitors, Bladder Scanner, Alaris pumps, Stryker beds, continuous bladder irrigation, and PCA pumps
- Shift is nights (7p–7:30a, 3x12-hour shifts) with rotating day/night scheduling based on departmental needs
- Shift assignments are reviewed every 4-week scheduling period; self-schedule requests are submitted for consideration before the final schedule is posted
- Floating required within units of equivalent or lower acuity
Requirements
- Active OH RN license or compact RN license required
- Required certifications: BLS (BCLS), ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale
- High-acuity PCU nursing experience required
- 2 years of oncology experience preferred but not required
- Previous travel nursing experience preferred
- Required skills include: telemetry interpretation of dysrhythmias, rapid response team utilization, feeding tube care and management, port access, blood product administration, central/peripheral/PICC line care and management, IV insertion, heparin protocols, cardiac drip management (non-titrating and titrating), PCA management, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, nasal cannula oxygen delivery, and tracheostomy management
- Preferred skills include: management of dysrhythmias, IV insulin and insulin drip titration, phlebotomy, chemotherapy administration and monitoring, wound care/wound vac, arterial line management, surgical drain management, and non-invasive airway management
- 2 professional references required: at least 1 from a Manager, Director, or formal leadership role (Supervisor); second reference may be from a Charge RN; co-worker references are not accepted
- Active licenses and certifications must be in hand at time of consideration
Additional Information
- Orientation consists of week one (Mon–Fri, day shift) followed by week two (36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor)
- Ohio state fingerprinting is required and must be initiated promptly upon accepting a contract; candidates outside Ohio will need to travel to an Ohio fingerprinting location or complete a mailed fingerprinting packet upon receipt
- Former facility employees are eligible for a travel assignment after a minimum 6-month separation from the facility
- RTO must be declared upfront and is limited to 7 days or fewer for the contract period
- Local candidates are accepted at the standard rate
- Parking is available for agency staff through CampusParc with multiple permit options at the candidate's expense
