Industrial Design-Build Field Superintendent
Industrial Design-Build Field Superintendent
You arrive at a manufacturing site in Ohio before sunrise. The site trailer is already humming — permits are posted, sanitary stations are stocked, and the day’s plan is pinned to the wall. Crews are looking to you for direction. Inspectors are scheduled. Materials are en route. As the on-site lead for a leading design-build general contractor, you orchestrate every moving part to keep complex industrial projects safe, on schedule, on budget, and built to spec.
The Role
As our Project Superintendent, you’ll manage day-to-day field operations for manufacturing projects in Ohio and across the U.S., reporting to a Senior Project Manager or Project Manager. An industrial background is highly desired, though strong commercial experience is welcome.
What You’ll Own
- Full-cycle field oversight: coordinate, sequence, and supervise all site activities from mobilization to closeout.
- Site setup: establish the office trailer; ensure permits, labor notices, safety regulations, and EEOC materials are posted; set up sanitary stations and coolers.
- Field leadership: direct contractors, suppliers, and vendors to meet schedule and quality standards per drawings and specifications.
- Schedule control: build, maintain, and update progress schedules; identify risks early and drive issue resolution.
- Inspections and procurement: order materials, schedule inspections, and verify readiness throughout construction.
- Safety first: model and enforce safety policies, hold safety meetings, and immediately eliminate hazards.
- Documentation mastery: create accurate, timely submittal logs; receive approved submittals from the A/E and flag any potential schedule impacts.
- Change management support: prepare backup for change requests in partnership with the Project Manager.
- Contract closeout: deliver all required closeout documentation in accordance with the contract.
- Document distribution: furnish subcontractors with current drawings, specifications, general conditions, and all accepted alternates/addenda.
- Meeting cadence: schedule required construction meetings; take thorough minutes and distribute promptly.
- Stakeholder engagement: attend Owner/Architect pre-bid, project, and closeout meetings.
- Trade and supplier outreach: solicit subcontractor and vendor proposals prior to bid deadlines.
- Professional correspondence: prepare RFIs, submittals, transmittals, schedules, schedules of values, and project memos to Owners, Architects, Engineers, Subcontractors, and Suppliers.
- Permitting and fees: submit building permit applications, monitor reviews, obtain approvals, and process Check Requests (Urgent Pay Request) per procedure.
- Construction phase execution: manage quality, schedule, budget, and safety; use scheduling and document control tools to track performance.
- Performance tracking: document subcontractor and supplier quality/progress; communicate plan/spec/schedule changes.
- Project reporting: update management on productivity, costs, QC, documentation, and pay applications; elevate any issues affecting quality, budget, progress, or safety.
- Punch list leadership: plan, supervise, and complete final punch list activities.
- Site organization: maintain a clean, orderly job site and construction office.
- Relationship stewardship: build positive partnerships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and teammates.
- Other related duties as necessary.
