Nutrition Coordinator
Summary The Nutrition Coordinator manages and oversees agency-wide nutrition services to ensure the delivery of a high-quality, compliant, and safe food service program across all MVCDC sites. This role ensures compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, CACFP regulations, DCY licensing standards, USDA requirements, local health department regulations, and MVCDC policies and procedures. The Nutrition Coordinator provides leadership, training, and technical assistance to nutrition staff while supporting child health, safety, and individualized dietary needs across the program. Duties Program Oversight & Compliance
o Carry forth the Mission of MVCDC; support quality management principles; and work toward agency and program goals.
o Ensure agency compliance with:
- Head Start Performance Standards
- CACFP program standards
- DCY licensing standards
- USDA and local Health Department regulations
o Ensure adherence to agency confidentiality policies. Nutrition & Food Service Management
o Coordinate food service operations for:
- Full-service cook sites
- Catered sites
o Ensure individualized dietary needs are implemented accurately and consistently.
o Coordinate the maintenance and repair of kitchen equipment.
o Support approval and submission of vendor invoices.
o Assist with food procurement processes and vendor coordination.
o Ensure sanitation, safety, and food preparation standards are consistently maintained.
o Ensure cleanliness, security, and appropriate use of property, equipment, materials, and documentation. Leadership & Staff Supervision
o Supervise designated nutrition staff across various locations.
o Support hiring and training all cooks/lead cooks.
o Provide technical assistance to Nutrition staff, other MVCDC staff, parents, and volunteers.
o Participate in and/or facilitate required trainings, meetings, and professional development.
o Represent MVCDC professionally in manner and dress to staff, families, Board of Trustees, volunteers, and community partners. Child Safety & Program Support
o Ensure the safety and active supervision of children during all parts of the daily routine to minimize the potential for children being left alone and/or unsupervised.
o Assist with preparation and serving of nutritious meals and snacks as needed.
o Support overall classroom and site collaboration to ensure seamless service delivery. Continuous Improvement & Collaboration
o Participate in ongoing professional development.
o Implement new information to improve performance and service quality.
o Work collaboratively with Education, Health, Family Engagement, and Operations teams to support child and family outcomes.
o Perform other duties as assigned to support quality services to children and families. Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (Required)
- Degree in food and nutrition, Dietetics, Hospitality or related field (Preferred)
- Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (Preferred)
- One year’s experience working with early childhood/elementary children (Preferred)
- One year’s experience in food, nutrition services supervision experience (Required)
- Knowledge of USDA and CACFP requirements (Preferred)
- Level 2 Serve Safe Certification (Preferred)
- Pediatric First Aid and CPR certification (or ability to obtain within MVCDC timeframe) (Required)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
- Ability to meet and maintain compliance with ODJFS, CACFP, USDA, Health, and Sanitation regulations
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Collaborative, team-oriented with positive and dedicated work ethic to children and families
- Willingness to continue professional education and learning
