POSITION DESCRIPTION
Class Title: Deputy Clerk 1
Employment Status: Full-time (37 ½ hrs) Reports to: Clerk of Court
Pay: $17.79
Qualifications: Completion of secondary education and experience which indicates some knowledge of legal terminology, bookkeeping, possesses excellent customer service skills, and a demonstrable skill in typing.
License or Certification Requirements: None.
Minimum Acceptable Characteristics: (*Indicates developed after employment)
Knowledge of: government structure and process*; bookkeeping*; department policies and procedures*; courtroom procedures*; legal terminology*; court filing procedures*; office practices and procedures; records management; basic use of computer & technology.
Ability to: Prepare accurate documentation; copy material accurately and recognize grammatical and spelling errors; complete routine forms; calculate decimals & percentages; sort items into categories according to established methods; gather, collate, and classify information; maintain records according to established procedures; develop and maintain effective working relationships; lift boxes/files weighing 20 lbs or less.
Essential Functions of the Position: For purposes of 42 USC 12101:
1. Computes, collects, and receipts monies received in mail or over counter for payment of fines, court costs, bail bonds, etc.; enters amount received in cash register; records payment to appropriate accounting document; balances cash received against receipts.
2. Prepares, types, and/or issues various documents generated by department (e.g. correspondence, summons, warrants, subpoenas, reports, permits, forms, assignment notices, commitments, jury venires, complaints, waives, bonds, journal entries, certificate of fees, etc.); reproduces documents as needed.
3. Indexes dockets and files documents received by the court (e.g. complaints, traffic citations, judgment entries, etc.), retrieves case files as needed. Supplies information for the collection of delinquent monies owed to the Court.
4. Responds to inquires and provides general information to public, in person or by telephone.
5. Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential function.
6. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.

· Telephone, computer, copy machine (scan & fax), postage machine, credit card processing machine, recording equipment, and calculator.
Inherently Hazardous or Physically Demanding Working Conditions: The employee ascends and/or descends ladders, stairs, or scaffolds; is exposed to possible injury due to unclean or unsanitary conditions; uses or works in proximity to the use of firearms; has contact with potentially violent or emotionally distraught person; has exposure to vicious animals; has exposure to life-threatening situations; has exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy weather conditions, has exposure to hazardous driving conditions.
