Mechanical design senior engineer

Design engineering solutions for assigned complex parts and the associated drawings and validation processes, to gather data and provide feedback on their feasibility, costs, quality, and performance. Conduct the analysis of information, drafting of engineering specifications, and evaluation of their effectiveness for assigned complex parts, to ensure functional safety standards are achieved. Conduct complex root cause analyses to understand and react to testing and simulation results. Work within an established framework and with available guidance to integrate assigned parts into the vehicle. Interactions and correlations are typically at the department and division level, but can extend beyond it to correlate with other teams (i.e., design, testing, manufacturing, styling, service) for the assignment at hand. Work with suppliers to coordinate requirements, schedule activities, and address issues in a timely manner. Identify shortcomings and suggest improvements to existing processes, systems and procedures in order to increase efficiency and other key metrics. Prepare documentation independently to record and submit all necessary information to Technical Experts and Leaders for approval at key stages of development. Coordinate team actions on project tasks, request additional team member support when needed, and identify potential areas for improvement necessary to build the capability of the team (i.e., through training, coaching and mentoring). Deepen technical expertise and further develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching. Gain or maintain external professional accreditations where relevant to improve performance and fulfill personal potential. Maintain an in-depth understanding of technology, external regulations, and industry best practices through ongoing education, conferences, and specialist publications.

Minimum requirements: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology; 3 years of relevant professional experience; 3 years of experience in automotive engineering focusing on design of any of the following closure components: Sheet Metal and Structure design, weather strips, plastic exterior trim, door moldings, door handles and latch systems, Power door or tailgate systems; 3 years of experience with 3D CAD modeling software, including creating master sections, layouts and 3D data of closure components; 3 years of direct experience creating 2D Drawings of closure components to communicate design to suppliers and manufacturing; 3 years of experience with manufacturing methods for Sheet Metal, Plastic and Rubber components ensuring closure components are designed to be manufactured in a cost efficient manner; and 3 years of direct experience designing components within a team of engineers to develop a complete closure assembly. Telecommuting Optional - May work from any location in Ohio subject to company hybrid work policy.
