Under general supervision, plans, directs, and evaluates total nursing care and functions within the organization, in accordance with established philosophy.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Graduate of an accredited program in nursing.
- Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) preferred.
Active State of Ohio Registered Nurse Nursing License. - CPR - approved by the American Heart Association.
- ACLS (within 6 months of hire) - approved by the American Heart Association.
- PALS - Pediatric Emergency Certification (within 6 months of hire) - approved by the American Heart Association or ENPC approved by the Emergency Nurses Association.
- Basic computer skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provides the best possible nursing care by planning, organizing, and directing the nursing functions of patients on the unit.
- Initiates and implements patient education and care plan.
- Ability to assess, critically think, rapidly recognize and respond to clinical changes.
- Makes nursing assignments appropriate to the skill level of employees.
- Maintains acceptable standards of patient care.
- Identifies problems and guides personnel to their solution.

- Keeps the Nursing Supervisor informed of patients, needs, and problems on the nursing unit.

- Assists in reviewing and revising policies and procedures.

- Must have basic computer skills and ability to access internet and other programs applicable to Hocking Valley Community Hospital procedures.

- Manages basic life support needs and stabilizes patients until the attending physician is available, based upon nursing standards and protocol.

LEADERSHIP CAPABILITIES
- Supports standards of nursing care through adherence to existing policies and procedures.
- Supervises care given by nonprofessional personnel, providing instruction as needed.
- Regularly attends unit staff meetings.
FUNCTIONAL DEMANDS
- Works in a patient care setting where there is potential exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious materials; and electrical, fire, chemical, physical contact and equipment hazards.
- Fast-paced setting with rapid patient turnover.
- High patient traffic.
- Close-quartered and shared work space.
- Sufficient mobility to negotiate physical plant.
- Strength and endurance sufficient enough to perform physically for long periods of time without sitting (four to eight hours). May include: walking; lifting 25 – 50lbs with or without assistance; bending; twisting; standing; sitting; reaching; stair-climbing and descending.
- Physical dexterity and psychomotor skills to respond adequately and appropriately to routine and emergency patient care needs in an ambulatory setting.
- Visual and auditory capabilities sufficient to read information and respond to patient care needs.
- Ability to work in a computerized environment that includes prolonged sitting and use of keyboard, mouse, and monitor.
- Cognitive ability to accurately observe, analyze, and interpret general and technical data both verbal and written to accurately communicate this information.
