Patient Care Nursing Assistant - Acute Care Orthopaedic Surgery and Ortho Trauma
- Prepare units, patient rooms and patient beds for receiving patient admission, returning surgical patients, transfer or emergencies.
- Provide and document assigned care, such as bathing, changing/refreshing bed linens, dressing/undressing, feeding, etc.
- Take and document the patient's temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, weight and height.
- Perform treatment procedures, such as venous blood draws, enemas, application of ice and heat packs, non-sterile compresses, skin preps, setting up oxygen equipment, bed scale weights, setting up overhead trapeze and Buck’s traction, removal of urinary Foley Catheters and other therapeutic measures.
- Assist with pre-operative and post-operative care, such as turning and positioning patients with proper body mechanics, applying/utilizing special equipment and ambulating the patient as directed in a safe, prescribed manner.
- Assist and accompany patients during admission, transfer and discharge.
- Perform hourly safety rounds, anticipate patient needs and respond to patient call lights promptly.
- Collect, properly label and transport specimens to proper area.
- Report to appropriate nursing personnel pertinent information including any changes observed in condition or behavior of patient.
- Assist in keeping patient rooms in order, report equipment that is out of order, clean equipment and inventory and distribute unit linen and supplies.
- Document patient care in the electronic medical record.
- Complete ongoing competency requirements, education programs and mandatory training to maintain certification and/or licensure.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon hire or during new hire period
- Prior job or educational experience providing basic computer knowledge and skills
- Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered
- State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA)
- One year of recent acute care experience
- Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
- Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
