Part-Time Auxiliary Police Officer

DEPARTMENT: Police Department

SALARY: $15.00 - $16.65 per hour (up to 29 hrs. weekly)

STATUS: Part-Time

REPORTS TO: Chief of Police

GENERAL PURPOSE :

The Auxiliary Police Officer provides support to the regular police force by assisting in routine patrols, traffic control, and community outreach. This role is part-time position that aims to enhance the effectiveness of the primary police force.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Maintain the trust, faith, and confidence of the Chief of Police and PD personnel.

· Be regularly available for call-out and assignments when needed.

· Operate a cruiser in patrolling an assigned area for the prevention of crime and preservation of peace.

· Respond to radio transmission or telephone assignments to assist at scenes of disorder or crime.

· Assist regular officers in the performance of their duties.

· Provide traffic control and direction when and where needed.

· Conducts house checks.

· Operate radio and telephone equipment and provide support services to the PD whenever and wherever needed.

· Note and report traffic hazards.

· Observe and report conditions conducive to crime or criminal activity.

· Provide security for the Bedford Heights Department of Community Life.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

· High school graduate or equivalent experience and/or related education and at least eighteen (18) years of age.

· Ability to effectively work and communicate with the general public.

· Valid Ohio Driver’s license.
