Automation Systems Reliability Field Technician
Do you thrive on solving tough industrial problems in the field
If you can isolate a fault in a VFD, rebuild a mechanical assembly, and coach a customer through a safe startup, this role is for you. Expect to travel broadly to wherever your expertise is needed.
Extensive travel required across local and national sites.
Imagine this scenario
A production line goes down. You arrive, observe the equipment, trace the issue through control logic and mechanical linkages, disassemble to access the failed part, adjust instrumentation, replace components, and verify performance. You document the work, brief the customer team, and schedule preventive actions to avoid repeat failures. That is a typical win.
Your mission
- Deliver both break-fix response and preventive maintenance that restore uptime and boost reliability.
- Use observation, measurement, and systematic troubleshooting to find root causes in electrical circuitry and mechanical systems.
- Dismantle, adjust, repair, and replace parts as required; identify and source needed parts and supplies.
- Operate independently with minimal instruction to complete maintenance to industry standards.
- Work shoulder to shoulder with customer personnel to run reliability and PM procedures.
- Set up and operate machining equipment such as lathes, drill presses, and grinders; perform welding when fabrication or repair is required.
- Follow customer contractor codes of conduct, housekeeping rules, and all site safety processes.
- Log activities in service reports and maintain records in the appropriate management systems.
- Apply established practices within industrial control systems to analyze complex assets, perform maintenance, and resolve problems.
- Advance your capabilities through on-the-job training and self-directed technical study.
- Uphold all safety policies and technical instructions, maintaining situational awareness to recognize and report unsafe behaviors and conditions.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Associate degree with a technical concentration and 5 years of related industry experience, or 7 years of related industry experience.
- Comfort with basic hand tools and appropriate specialized tools.
- Practical knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and fluid power systems; capable of analyzing issues, proposing alternatives, and executing repairs.
Bonus skills
- Structured preventive maintenance, precision measuring techniques, mechanical alignment, and general process equipment care.
- Background with PLCs, field devices, and electrical drive and motor systems.
Competencies that matter
- Communications
- Customer Focus
- Personal Discipline
- Safety
Working conditions
