Electrical Technician II’s are responsible for wiring PC boards, controls, switches, and various other
electrical assemblies from schematics, layout diagrams, and written specifications
Requirements:Technical
1. Identify and properly wire general utility circuits and their components including but not limited to exit lights,
GFCI’s, internal and external lighting fixtures, receptacles, and switches.
2. Layout, bend, and install EMT and rigid conduit according to NEC code.
3. Identify wire and cable to be used in installations based on prints and diagrams.
4. Safely pull and run cable and wire, adhering to conduit or cable tray fill requirements.
5. Properly terminate a variety of wire and cable in panels, circuits, and various electrical components including
switchgear, UPSs, transformers, circuit breakers, relays, terminal blocks, VFDs, etc.
6. Layout and mount a variety of electrical components and fixtures according to mechanical drawings and code
requirements.
7. Troubleshoot and diagnose causes of electrical or mechanical malfunction or failure and make necessary repairs,
adjustments, or changes, ensuring these changes are relayed to proper channels for drawing redlines and
updates.
Electrical Theory and Code
1. Understand, interpret, and follow current NEC code, MSHA code, and other codes as necessary to install
electrical circuits, electrical components, and proper grounding and bonding infrastructure.
2. Read and interpret a variety of mechanical and electrical prints including single line and three line wire
diagrams, control schematics, and cable schedules.
3. Use a strong foundation in electrical theory to problem-solve and troubleshoot electrical issues or failures.
4. Consult job travelers to find required information for the project including prints, torque sheets, bills of
materials, and any other pertinent special customer requirements.
Tools and Equipment
1 Safely operates and properly uses – wire strippers, crimpers, drills, utility knives, conduit benders, reciprocating
saws, and other hand and power tools as required.
2. Read and use Multimeters, Volt-Ohm meters, Hi-pot equipment.
2. Use overhead crane, forklift, hoists, to assist in electrical assembly and moving materials/projects
3. Properly care for and maintain tools in good operating condition; ensure tools and equipment is properly
stored at the end of each shift

1. Maintains regular and consistent job attendance, comes to work on time

4. Must maintain a safe and clean work area at all times

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:
• 2,000-4,000 hours of on the job electrician experience
• Passes IE Electrical Technician 2 Competency Test with a score of 75% or higher
Language Ability:
Ability to read, interpret, understand electrical schematics/ drawings and specification charts and make direct application
to project set up and final product. Must be able to read, and understand production reports related to quality, and
quantity. Must be able to write NCR’s and comply with safety rules. Must be able to establish productive and effective
communication ties and relationships with co-workers, supervisors, customers, and staff.
Math Ability:
Ability to compute electrical calculations – ohms, resistance, voltage, fusing capacity, etc. Must be able to accurately follow
schematics and electrical drawings and wire match such. Ability to understand and know company operation costs and
production costs and production overrun costs. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and
proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to analyze and understand project plan documents and specifications and successfully resolve practical problems and
they may occur. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills:
Must be able to use computer to log in time and job hours.
Certificates and Licenses:
For individuals based in Colorado or Utah where the individual is pursuing a Journeymen’s license through a state authority,
and where IE is recognized in the state as a licensed contractor, they must maintain a valid apprentice license to receive
signed hours towards that requirement. [Not required for IL or OH based employees]
Must possess valid OSHA forklift and Overhead Crane certification or ability to obtain such.
Safety:
Must comply with and follow all IE safety programs, policies and procedures. Must operate and perform job duties in a safe
manner. Must be able to operate/work safely around machinery/moving equipment
