About the Role

We are seeking a Data Processing Clerk II to perform clerical, coding and data entry support for the Division of Field Studies and Engineering (DFSE) within the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).

This is a hybrid remote position based in Cincinnati, Ohio that will require onsite work at the customer's location at least 3 days per week. Telework must be approved by customer. Must be available between 8:00 am to 5:00 pm EST Monday through Friday. This position is contingent upon contract award.

Responsibilities

Enter occupational health and exposure study data according to a project specific coding guide provided for the activity.

• Source documents vary by project. They typically include electronic files, pdf documents or microform copies of hardcopy records, such as employment records, death records, or surveys which respondents completed

• Perform data entry that includes both verbatim entry as well as industry and occupation coding according to established guidelines

• Data entry instructions are provided to guide each entry project; d) Coding decisions are based on these instructions

• The data are typically entered into a custom-tailored entry application designed for the specific activity, using a tool such as Microsoft Access in the NIOSH Industry and Occupation Computerized Coding System (NIOCCS)

• Follow Government project leader instructions, who orients staff to the project and addresses questions and concerns as the project progresses.

Validate or correct study and surveillance data from edited reports.

• Corrective actions are directed by the data entry instructions or by the project leader.

Code data according to national classification standards.

• Assign industry and occupation codes to industry and occupational text fields from vital records, surveys and company information forms using Census, NAICS or SOC coding schemes. The coding assignments are done using a data entry program. First level quality control is performed by each clerk for accurate interpretation of industry and occupation narratives

• Assign illness and injury cause codes to narrative descriptions of the cause of workers' compensation claims using the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Occupational Injury and Illness Classification System (OIICS) Manual.

Attend NIOSH sponsored training and meetings.

Requirements

Required Skills and Experience

• Minimum 2 years of experience as Data Processing Clerk performing clerical, coding and data entry.

• Excellent knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Access).

• Must be proficient in touch-typing skills.

• Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

• Ability to concentrate for lengthy periods and perform accurately with adequate speed.

• Ability to obtain and maintain government clearance and customer approval.

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Education

• Must have High School diploma or GED.

Physical Requirements

• Candidates must currently reside in or within daily commuting distance of Cincinnati, Ohio.

• Must be able to work onsite at least 3 days per week. Telework must be approved by customer. Must be available between 8:00 am to 5:00 pm EST Monday through Friday.

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. May need to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.

Pay Range

The projected pay range for this position is $18.27-$19.93 per hour. Please note that the pay information listed is a good faith estimate for this position and a general guideline only. Multiple factors are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, the candidate's relevant work experience, skills, education, certifications, and competencies that align with the specified role, geographic location, as well as business considerations and contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
