Cardiac Stepdown RN Job Details
- Location: Dayton, OH 45409 (Ohio nursing jobs)
- Healthcare Setting: Cardiac Stepdown / Telemetry Unit
- Assignment Length: 16-20 weeks preferred (13-week travel nurse contracts accepted)
- Start Date: September 22, 2025
- End Date: February 9, 2026
- Shift: 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM), 3 shifts per week
- Hours per Week: 36
- Estimated Weekly Salary: $1950 - $2000 per week
- Patient Ratio: 1:5-6
- Floating: Required within specialty clusters and to nearby campuses as needed
- Weekend/Holiday: Every other weekend and holiday coverage required
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (any state or compact RN license accepted)
- Minimum 1.5 years of recent Cardiac Stepdown or Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience (ICU experience does not substitute)
- Experience with a 1:5 patient ratio in Stepdown or PCU required
- EPIC electronic medical record (EMR) charting experience
- BLS and NIHSS certifications required; ACLS certification preferred
- Must pass an online EKG/telemetry competency assessment prior to start
- Proficient in IV starts and titration of cardiac drips (heparin, nitroglycerin, amiodarone, Cardizem, insulin, etc.)
- Ability to read and interpret cardiac strips
- Must be fitted for N95 mask or PAPR prior to working on designated units
- Travel nursing experience preferred
- Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions accepted); COVID-19 vaccine not required
- No prior license action accepted
- Must complete required onboarding modules and assessments within specified timeframes
- Deliver high-quality nursing care to cardiac stepdown patients, including those with heart failure, chest pain, NSTEMI, post-procedure, COPD exacerbation, and withdrawal syndromes
- Monitor and interpret telemetry and cardiac rhythms; respond to rapid response/code situations
- Administer and titrate IV drips and cardiac medications as ordered
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including IV, respiratory, physical therapy, pharmacy, and social services
- Float to other units and campuses as assigned, providing clinical support as needed
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in EPIC EMR
- Adhere to all facility policies, including infection control and safety protocols
- Participate in orientation, ongoing training, and competency assessments
