JOB SUMMARY

Delivers direct/indirect patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. Works closely with physicians and nurses to assure the delivery of safe quality, age specific care. Demonstrates critical thinking to assure the delivery of safe, quality age specific care. Documents accurately and in a timely manner. Communicates and collaborates with other healthcare team members. Adheres to organizational policies and procedures; regulatory/ accrediting body requirements; and professional practice standards.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prepares endoscopy suite by ensuring correct supplies, equipment and instruments are available.
• Assists other team members in set-up, clean-up, and turn-over of endoscopy rooms.
• Meticulously follows reprocessing protocol through decontamination and reprocessing of endoscopes.
• Checks out -dates and condition of supplies and equipment.
• Transports patients.
• Collaborates with the Registered Nurse in preparing and labeling specimens for laboratory analysis. Verifies specimens are accurately labeled and handled.
• Participates in time out procedure.
• Collaborates and communicates effectively with other team members in performing a safe procedure with optimal outcomes for the patient.
• Anticipates the needs of the physician, providing assistance as needed, as well as handling all sharps appropriately and safely.
• Demonstrates knowledge of disaster/ emergency procedures and responds appropriately.
• Assumes responsibility and accountability for individual knowledge, skills, performance and behavior in accordance with hospital, division, and unit standards of care and policies and procedures.
• Utilizes measures to promote and maintain patient, visitor and personnel safety.
• Maintains patient, employee, physician, and organization confidentiality; respects the rights, privacy, and property of others.
• Demonstrates the appropriate use of infection control principles and personal protection equipment.

Requirements Include

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider CPR (BLS) certification required.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience as Patient Care Assistant or experience as an Endoscopy Technician or Surgical Technician preferred.
• Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (SGNA) GI Technical Specialist (GTS) completed with passing grade required within one year of hire.
