Lead Java Backend Engineer

Local Columbus, OH candidates only. This position requires working onsite three days per week. Relocation assistance and visa sponsorship are not available.

We’re recruiting for a stable, mission-driven technology team based in Columbus, OH. This role requires working onsite in a hybrid schedule three days per week and is best suited for a Senior Java engineer who already lives in the Columbus area and is seeking a long-term, hands-on technical role with real influence.

This is a technical lead position so it's not a people management role. You’ll serve as a trusted engineering resource while staying close to the code. Relocation assistance and visa sponsorship are not available for this position.

What You’ll Do

• Design and build backend services using Java

• Serve as a technical point of reference for system design and complex problem solving

• Contribute to architecture decisions and coding standards

• Work with NoSQL databases supporting data-intensive systems

• Collaborate with engineering and product partners in a hybrid environment

• Participate in code reviews and continuous platform improvements

What You’ll Bring

• Minimum of 7 years of professional software development experience

• 5+ years of hands-on Java development

• Experience with NoSQL technologies (MongoDB, Cassandra, Hadoop, or similar)

• Background working with distributed backend systems

• Strong ownership mindset and follow-through

• Preference for candidates with stable, longer-term tenure

• Formal technical education or equivalent experience

Role Notes

• Hybrid schedule: onsite Monday, Tuesday, plus one additional day each week
