The Chillicothe VAMC provides primary care, mental health, and long term care services to approximately 73,000 veterans.The facility is an active ambulatory care setting and serves as a chronic mental health referral center for VA Medical Centers in southern Ohio and parts of West Virginia and Kentucky.

Duties

The Chillicothe VAMC is recruiting for a full-time Primary Care doctor. Clinic hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm. Will also include rotating assignment to on-callMedical Officer of the Day, once or twice a month as needed.

Some weekend and evening coverage may apply.

Applications will be accepted from all qualified physicians, but preferred areas of specialties are: Internal Medicine or Family Practice.

Additional Requirements

  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. Degree must be obtained from a school approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • All billable providers entering VA employment must register a National Practitioner Identifier (NPI).
  • All providers entering VA employment must be able to qualify for a DEA number.

DUTY/ALTERNATE DUTY LOCATION(S): Chillicothe, Ohio, Main Campus is the primary duty site. Employee selected will perform duties at the Chillicothe VAMC campus on a regular and recurring schedule based on the needs of the organization. Chillicothe VAMC Health Care System provides a full continuum of care between the Main Campus and outlying CBOCs at Cambridge, Marietta, Athens, Lancaster, Portsmouth, and Wilmington. Employees selected will be expected to travel occasionally and to perform their full tour of duty as required at alternate duty sites such as the CBOCs named above. Additional travel to support local V10 and VHA national initiatives, committee membership(s) and continuing education requirements maybe required and supported by the Chillicothe VAMC.

Salary will be determined by a Compensation Panel and will be based on education and experience.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Basic Requirements

Citizenship. Citizen of the United States. (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g, this part.)

Education

Education. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:

  • Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted.
  • Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.
  • Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.
  • For residents, graduation from an approved medical school as described above is required except as provided in M-8, part II, chapter 1.

Licensure and Registration

  • Physicians (Except Residents). Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. The facility Director may waive this licensure requirement if the physician is to serve in a country other than the United States and the physician has licensure in that country.
  • Residents. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia before the second year of VA residency, or meet any licensure, registration or other equivalent requirements established for residents of non-VA hospitals with which the VA facility is affiliated for training purposes. The resident must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.
  • Impaired Licensure. A physician who has, or has ever had, any license(s) revoked, suspended, denied, restricted, limited, or issued/placed in a probationary status may be appointed only in accordance with the provisions of chapter 3, section B, paragraph 14 of this part.
  • Waiver of Licensure. Licensure may be waived by the Under Secretary for Health or designee in Central Office for individuals in research or academic assignments involving no direct patient care responsibilities in accordance with current regulations.
