Maintenance Technician

Position Summary

Beer Barrel Pizza & Grill is looking for a skilled Maintenance Technician - Refrigeration Specialist to support the operation and reliability of refrigeration and cooling system s in our 12 locations spanning northwest and central Ohio, as well as Fort Wayne, Indiana. This role combines general facility maintenance with specialized expertise in commercial refrigeration, ensuring that all equipment is safe, efficient, and compliant with food safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on refrigeration systems (walk-in coolers, freezers, ice machines, beverage dispensers, and reach-ins).

• Carry out general facility and equipment maintenance tasks as assigned.

• Monitor and maintain preventive maintenance schedules to maximize equipment uptime and efficiency.

• Respond quickly to service calls to reduce downtime and minimize food spoilage risk.

• Ensure compliance with sanitation, safety, and food service regulations.

• Track and document all maintenance and service work performed using computerized maintenance management system.

• Collaborate and communicate with approved outside providers in the event that repairs fall outside internal scope of work.

• Support kitchen and facility staff with technical expertise on refrigeration equipment , including education and training on best practices for cleaning, manual defrosting, verifying power source, and more.

• Handle refrigerants safely and in compliance with EPA guidelines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in HVAC/R or industrial maintenance preferred.

• 2-3+ years of experience as a maintenance or refrigeration technician, ideally in food service, hospitality, or institutional kitchens.

• EPA 608 Certification required (Type II or Universal).

• Strong knowledge of refrigeration systems and general maintenance practices.

• Ability to interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics.

• Familiarity with OSHA safety practices and food service compliance standards.

• Good communication and organizational skills.

Preferred Experience

• Background in restaurant, hotel, or institutional food service maintenance.

• Hands-on experience with energy-efficient refrigeration technologies.

• Experience using CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).

Physical Requirements

• Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

• Work in hot, cold, and confined spaces as needed.

• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and on-call rotations.

Work Environment

• This position is full-time, hourly, 100% in-person, and reports to the Maintenance Supervisor .

• This position works standard hours Monday-Friday, with as-needed evening and weekend support for maintenance emergencies .

• This position requires travel and a company vehicle will be provided .

• This position may be required to attend in-person meetings at either the corporate office in Columbus, OH or any of the restaurant locations.
