Title: High School Marketing and Business Instructor
Department: Career and Technical Education (CTE)/Business Department
Responsible To: Building Principal/CTE Director
FLSA Status: Exempt
Employment Type: Full-Time
Terms of Employment: Contract, salary, and benefits per negotiated agreement.
Ranges from 48,375 to 89,584
Qualifications:
Education & Licensure
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution in Business Administration, Marketing, Business Education, or a related field.
- Valid State Teaching Certificate/License in Business Education or Marketing Education (or eligibility for alternative/CTE industry-to-classroom licensure).
Experience & Skills
- Preferred: 2+ years of professional corporate experience in marketing, sales, or business management.
- Previous experience advising DECA, FBLA, or similar Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) is highly desirable.
- Strong communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills to effectively collaborate with students, parents, and local business leaders.
Job Summary:
Marion City Schools is seeking a dynamic, innovatnve, and industry-savvy Marketing and Business Teacher to inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs and business leaders. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between textbook theory and real-world application, delivering high-quality Career and Technical Education (CTE) instruction. This role involves managing a project-based classroom, fostering relationships with the local business community, and advising our student leadership chapter (DECA/FBLA) to prepare students for post-secondary education and modern careers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Instructional Delivery & Curriculum Management
- Industry-Aligned Instruction: Design and deliver engaging lessons covering core business topics, including entrepreneurship, digital marketing, social media strategy, finance, economics, management, and business ethics.
- Project-Based Learning: Implement a hands-on curriculum where students develop comprehensive business plans, launch mock marketing campaigns, and conduct market research.
- Technology Integration: Teach and utilize industry-standard tools and software, including CRM platforms, Google Analytics, Canva, AI business applications, and the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Differentiated Instruction: Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet the diverse needs, interests, and abilities of all students.
2. Career Readiness & Student Leadership
- CTSO Advisorship: Serve as the active advisor for the school’s [DECA / FBLA] chapter. Guide students through leadership development, community service initiatives, and regional/national competitive events.
- Industry Certifications: Prepare and proctor students to earn industry-recognized credentials (e.g., HubSpot Digital Marketing, Microsoft Office Specialist, or Adobe certifications).
- Work-Based Learning: Facilitate real-world opportunities for students, including internships, job shadowing, and cooperative education placements.
3. Community & Industry Networking
- Advisory Committee Leadership: Establish, maintain, and lead a Business Advisory Council consisting of local business professionals, parents, and alumni to ensure the curriculum meets current workforce demands.
- Professional Partnerships: Coordinate a robust network of local professionals to serve as guest speakers, project mentors, and competition judges.
4. Program Administration & Compliance
- CTE Compliance & Funding: Maintain accurate student records, tracking enrollment, certification pass rates, and program completion to satisfy state and federal CTE/Perkins funding requirements.
- Budget Management: Responsibly manage the department and student organization budgets, overseeing funds for classroom supplies, technology licenses, and conference travel.
Professional Development:
Stay current on evolving marketing trends, digital technologies, and pedagogy by participating in industry and district professional development.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Must be able to navigate a standard classroom and school campus environment.
- Frequent use of computer technology, interactive whiteboards, and digital presentation tools.
- Occasional evening and weekend hours required for student competitions, conferences, or community networking events.
Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Maintain appropriate licenses/endorsements and training hours as required.
- Comply with applicable District, state, local and federal laws, rules and regulations.
- Adhere to all standards established by the Ohio Department of Education for Licensed Educators.
- Maintain good attendance and punctuality.
- Maintain knowledge of academic area, teaching methodology and strategies to engage students.
- Ability to work effectively with others.
- Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Exhibit professional behavior, emotional stability and sound judgement.
- Ensure the safety of students.
- Maintain confidentiality and respect for confidential information at all times.
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships.
- Attends meetings, professional development and serves on staff committees as required.
- Interacts in a positive manner with staff, students and parents.
- Refer suspected cases of child abuse immediately to the appropriate child protective services/law enforcement agency as mandated by state law and Board of Education policy.
- Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect district equipment, materials and facilities.
- Plans purposeful assignments for educational assistants (para-professionals), volunteers and student teachers.
