Job Title: General Production Worker $17+ HR (Entry Level)

Job Description

The General Production Worker supports a busy steel manufacturing operation by performing a variety of general labor tasks related to the production of counterweights and steel products. This role involves unloading products from machines, preparing materials for shipment, assisting with material handling, and consistently following all safety policies and procedures in a heavy industrial environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with a wide range of general labor tasks in the manufacturing of counterweights and steel products.
• Unload finished or semi-finished product from machines in a safe and efficient manner.
• Prepare products and materials for shipment, including staging, organizing, and basic packaging as needed.
• Support material handling activities, such as moving, stacking, and positioning steel products and raw materials.
• Operate basic production and material handling equipment as directed and in accordance with safety guidelines.
• Use measurement tools to verify product dimensions and ensure materials meet required specifications.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area to support safety and productivity.
• Follow all applicable safety policies, procedures, and guidelines at all times.
• Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production goals and schedules.
• Report any equipment issues, safety concerns, or production problems promptly.

Essential Skills

• Ability to perform general labor tasks in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Ability to safely lift and carry 50+ pounds repeatedly throughout the shift.
• Willingness to work overtime, including at least 5 hours per week when required.
• Basic familiarity with machine operation in a production setting.
• Ability to use measurement tools to check product dimensions and quality.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
• Strong commitment to following all safety policies and procedures.
• Reliability and punctuality for scheduled shifts across multiple possible time slots.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Prior manufacturing experience preferred, but not required.
• Experience with construction, assembly, or similar hands-on work is beneficial.
• Comfort working around heavy steel, large machinery, and mixed new and older equipment.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a production team in a high-activity environment.
• Strong work ethic and willingness to learn new tasks and processes.

Work Environment

This role is based in a heavy steel manufacturing facility in Youngstown. The environment is industrial, dirty, and not well lit in some areas, with a mix of new and older equipment in operation. The production team includes approximately 50+ full-time workers and roughly 120 people in production when including full-time and temporary staff, creating a busy, high-activity setting. The facility operates multiple shifts, including 7:00 AM–3:30 PM, 3:00 PM–11:00 PM, and 10:30 PM–7:00 AM, and employees may be scheduled on any of these shifts with overtime as needed. The work involves frequent lifting of heavy steel materials, standing, walking, and working around large machines and material handling equipment in a traditional steel fabrication and service center environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Youngstown, OH.

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $20.00/hr.
