CNC Lathe & VMC Programmer-Operator (Mastercam and Mazak)
A day in this role
You start by reviewing detailed blueprints, planning tooling, and setting up a CNC lathe and vertical machining center for the day’s parts. You load programs created in Mastercam or build them at the Mazak control, dial in work offsets, and run a first-article. Throughout the shift, you keep machines cutting efficiently, verify critical features with micrometers, calipers, and height gauges, and make smart adjustments to hold tolerance. When needed, you jump onto the Bridgeport mill or a surface grinder to finish features and ensure top-notch quality.
Core responsibilities
- Set up and run CNC equipment, including lathes and vertical machining centers
- Read and interpret blueprints to determine tooling, workholding, and machining strategy
- Continuously monitor machine operations and make offset/tooling adjustments as needed
- Own in-process and final quality checks to meet specification
- Program parts using Mastercam and Mazak software
What you bring
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience with lathes, vertical machining centers, Bridgeport mills, and surface grinders
- Proficiency in CNC programming
- Competence with precision metrology tools, including micrometers, calipers, and height gauges
